Howe molding a handle onto her recently hardened clay mug base. She is using a score and slip technique in which the clay is scratched, then water is used to act as glue to adhere the pieces together.
Howe “throwing” clay onto her pottery wheel, starting the process of making a bowl. She first molds the clay to the wheel to make a base and adds water to make the clay malleable as she shapes it.
